Scientific and Computational Thinking & Technology: Open House – Lights and materials properties

In our SCTT lessons with the first graders, we’re diving into the amazing world of light! We’re exploring how light interacts with different materials and discovering fun concepts like transparent (you can see through), translucent (partially see through), and opaque (can’t see through). Through these activities, our students are learning to sort objects based on how they handle light. We have a blast using flashlights to test different materials, making observations, and chatting about what we find. This hands-on approach makes learning fun and sparks curiosity and critical thinking. Getting to know light and its properties helps our little ones develop their observation skills and a sense of wonder about the world around them.
