Scientific and Computational Thinking & Technology: Open House – Sounds Exploration

Our first graders have been on an exciting journey, exploring the world of sounds! The main objective? Understanding that sounds can be created by vibrating materials. We began by cataloging the unique sounds of various musical instruments and listening closely to the beauty of music. Next, we experimented with everyday materials, discovering how items like paper, rulers, and other classroom objects can be used to create different sounds. Finally, our first graders applied their programming skills by creating animations in Scratch Jr, using the sounds they recorded as sound effects! This project deepened their understanding of the connection between sound and vibrations and fostered creativity and collaboration. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and enthusiasm!
