Traits: observing the world around us!

After investigating our body parts, first-grade students will explore different plants and animal traits. They have started their investigation by developing the ability to build evidence-based scientific statements: making observations! We went to the School Garden, where they noticed and started registering that different kinds of plants have diverse types of shapes and colors. After that, they concluded that we can use those traits to understand the concept: young plants are like, but not exactly like, their parents. Later on, we will focus on other living beings, like birds, for example. For now, you can ask your son or daughter about the names of the different leaves’ shapes and about the song that helps them remember the names of the plant parts. A clue for you to sing with them is: it starts with “Roots…”!
